Automate your Project Management

As a data professional, I admit that I'm not the best at project management. I end up going heads down on projects for days (or weeks) at a time and forget to update the project board on my progress. I'm sure that my bosses in my data career can attest to this, and I hope that I am not the only one that is struggling on the project management front.

I would definitely group project management and menial tasks in the same boat. The reason that I love using Shipyard is that it allows me automate menial tasks that I would generally have to do on a daily basis.  However, Shipyard has not had any integrations with project management tools. Thankfully, that changes today.

Introducing our Project Management Blueprints

If you are a regular reader of our Blueprint announcement posts, you are probably searching the web for a tool called Project Management. Our solution engineers have been hard at work, and we are excited to announce that Shipyard now has integrations with 5 of the top project management tools on the market: Asana, Clickup, Jira, Shortcut, and Trello!

These new Blueprints will allow you to include Project Management in your workflows. More importantly, you can automate these processes to take some of the project management off of your plate. Here are the tasks you can accomplish with each new integration:

Asana
  • Create Task
  • Edit Task
Clickup

Jira

Take One More Thing Off Your Mental To-Do List

Project management tools do a great job of making sure you stay up to date on the tasks that you need to complete. However, the tools still require manual intervention from an individual to create and manage those tasks in the tool. We wanted to give our users the opportunity to automate this process and take one more daily chore off your to-do list.

With the combination of Shipyard and our new suite of project management integrations, you have the ability to create a task without ever opening the tool. If you want to let another team know that their data is ready after a run, you can schedule that at the end of your pipeline.

Another helpful way to use our new Blueprints is to create a task when an error occurs in your Fleet. Before this release, our low-code Blueprints only allowed you to send an email or Slack message to your stakeholders to let them know something is going on with the pipeline. Now, you are able to create a task if an issue arrises to get the resolution started immediately.

We think this takes Shipyard to the next level as a data observability platform. You can now let everyone across the organization know when data is ready for them or when an error arrises. This will allow your data team to build more trust across the organization.

Combine Your Project Management Tools with the Rest of Your Data Stack

Along with the new project management Blueprints, Shipyard has Blueprints that span across the full data stack with various common tasks that entail engagement with external databases (including Snowflake, Redshift, and BigQuery) or data storage solutions (such as AWS S3, Google Cloud Storage, and more) along with data transformation and BI tools.

Shipyard elevates the automation and integration of your project management tools, extending its capabilities to include a variety of other data tools you might be using. With the platform that Shipyard provides, your team is empowered to build a more adaptable and versatile pipeline. This cleverly designed pipeline gets rid of the need for delicate, time-sensitive links between different systems, making your data operations smoother and more efficient and builds trust across the organization.

Here are a few simple examples of how your project management tools can work with different services to help you build solutions that fit your data team's needs:

  • Create a ticket in Jira if a Fivetran extraction fails.
  • Edit a story in Shortcut when data is refreshed in Tableau.
  • Create a task in Asana for the marketing team when a Hightouch reverse ETL job is complete.

About Shipyard:
Shipyard is a modern data orchestration platform for data engineers to easily connect tools, automate workflows, and build a solid data infrastructure from day one.

Shipyard offers low-code templates that are configured using a visual interface, replacing the need to write code to build data workflows while enabling data engineers to get their work into production faster. If a solution can’t be built with existing templates, engineers can always automate scripts in the language of their choice to bring any internal or external process into their workflows.

The Shipyard team has built data products for some of the largest brands in business and deeply understands the problems that come with scale. Observability and alerting are built into the Shipyard platform, ensuring that breakages are identified before being discovered downstream by business teams.

With a high level of concurrency and end-to-end encryption, Shipyard enables data teams to accomplish more without relying on other teams or worrying about infrastructure challenges, while also ensuring that business teams trust the data made available to them.
